Tea Bowl Wood fired Chawan Anagama Kiln Hand formed with Chino Glaze Japanese Styled Tea Ceremony Chino Glaze

This tea bowl is unique. Its shape was created only by hands (Hand formed). Only hands, clay and iron or wood scraper. You can see fingerprints on the sides of the bowl.
It stood deep in the anagama kiln and received a light coating of wood ash glaze. Therefore, this tea bowl looks very gentle and natural. Natural wood ash: pottery surface is left unglazed and takes on color and markings during the firing from the melted wood ash. It was fired in an anagama kiln for 80 hours. The temperature reached 1350 degrees (wood fired).
This chawan was created for communication, and it also does it on a tactile level...

Dimensions:
Diameter of bowl.: 5,12" - 5,9" (13-15 cm)
Height: 2,95 " ( 7,5 cm)

This listing is for one tea bowl. Please note this is a completely handmade item, each one is unique, and it will look exactly like the one pictured. I do my best to reflect my ceramics in the pictures as real as possible, but some color variations should be taken in account.

There are many different Сhawan / tea bowls for making matcha green tea that you can use and use in your daily life, but I think it all comes down to preference. Find what works for you and go from there. One of my favorite things about preparing matcha green tea is knowing that the tea bowl, chawan is made by hand ...
All Сhawans are hand-sculpted (rather than thrown on a potter’s wheel).
Chawan are molded using the "tezukune" technique (hand-forming), with the palms of the hand: clay is shaped into a dense, flat circle and built up by compressing between the palms. When dry enough, the rough and imperfect clay is trimmed with an iron scraper - "kurinuki" technique . Then it is covered with glaze and fired at high temperature. All glazes and clay used are “food safe”

All tea bowls/Chawans inside and its edges are glazed. Outside, there may be small areas, as well as on the foot, which are not covered with glaze. This is done specifically so that you can feel pure clay, not coated ceramics. Non-glazed areas are very dense and hardly absorb water.
Remember - Chawans are completely handmade and unique, two tea bowls do not look the same.

Not only it will be perfect for every day use for your favorite tea, It will make lovely decorative piece for your dining room. Or it will make wonderful gift for someone special.

Tea bowl (chawan 茶碗). A chawan is simply a teacup without a handle primarily used in the Japanese Tea Ceremony for preparing and drinking Matcha (powdered green tea), but is also used for other types of tea as well. It can also refer to a bowl for rice.
Shallow bowls, which allow the tea to cool rapidly, are used in summer; deep bowls are used in winter. The best bowls are thrown by hand. Irregularities and imperfections are prized: they are often featured prominently as the "front" of the bowl.
